The National Commission for Information Technology and Human Rights ( CNIL ) France fined Discord for 800,000 euros for violating the General Data Protection Regulation ( GDPR ). General Regulation for the Protection of Personal Data ( GDPR ) – European Union Regulation by which the European Parliament, The Council of the European Union and the European Commission strengthen and unify the protection of personal data of all persons in the European Union ( EU ). The regulation is also aimed at exporting data from the EU.

- Discord's database kept accounts of nearly 2.5 million Frenchmen who have not been used for more than three years. Now the platform is committed to deleting user accounts after two years of inaction;
- Discord accepts too simple ( passwords from six ) characters. Now the platform requires longer and more complex passwords.
